Yanshan University is a national key university jointly established by the Hebei Provincial People's Government, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense. It is a national first-class university and a world-class discipline construction university supported by Hebei Province, and a member of the Beijing High-Tech University Alliance. The school originated from Harbin Institute of Technology and was founded in 1920. In 1958, in response to the call of the state, Harbin Institute of Technology moved heavy machinery and related majors to the industrial town of Qiqihar Fularji District, and established the Fularji Campus of Harbin Institute of Technology, which was first named Fularji Heavy Machinery College of Harbin Institute of Technology and later renamed the Heavy Machinery College of Harbin Institute of Technology. 1960 Independent school, named Northeast Heavy Machinery College, became the former Ministry of machinery industry directly under the university. In 1978, it was identified as a national key institution of higher learning. From 1985 to 1997, the whole school moved to Qinhuangdao City. In 1997, it was renamed Yanshan University with the approval of the former State Education Commission. In 1998, the former Ministry of Machinery Industry transferred to Hebei Province, the implementation of central and local joint construction, Hebei Province management. In 2000, Hebei Light Industry Management School was merged into Yanshan University. The university has 34 majors selected as national first-class undergraduate major construction points. In 2016, as one of the two universities selected by the Ministry of Education, the national certification of the university's engineering profession accepted the observation and investigation of international experts of the Washington Agreement, supporting China's formal accession to the international engineering education organization of the Washington Agreement. At present, 18 engineering majors in the school have passed the professional certification (assessment) of engineering education, which indicates that the quality of talent training in these majors has been recognized internationally.
